In a recent survey, business accounting software vendor MYOB Australia found that nearly two thirds of small businesses in Australia do not have a website even though the businesses that do, enjoy better financial results. The survey of 1043 small and medium businesses was conducted in February 2012 and the findings were published in March 2012.

Some of the key findings from the survey were:

  • 36% of businesses have a website
  • In the 12 months prior to the survey, 27% of businesses that had a website gained business revenue compared with 17% of businesses that do not
  • Businesses with websites had more sales in their pipeline, had intentions of increasing staff numbers and expanding in to foreign markets
  • 42% of businesses with a website expected revenue to increase in the next 12 months compared to 24% of businesses without a website
  • Business websites generated more leads and conversions compared to other media
